Not The Best Time To Start Blogging

I Got Type 1 Diabetes         Monday, January 1, 2018   I went camping at Pupukea for Boy Scout winter camp. I was an SPL (the senior scout boy leader). My chest started to hurt with each move. I went to the nurse and she said it was only heartburn; she advised me to treat a heartburn you want to stay a from meats, eggs, cheese; any free carb foods; and eat foods like a bread, juices, milk; heavy carb foods; [all bad for a diabetic but we didn't know yet.] I went home a day earlier after the final fire bowl. The nurse and other medical professionals, at camp, told me all I needed was a hot shower and good night sleep because I was camping in the rain. When I came home and took a shower I couldn't even stand up. So my mom checked my blood sugar just to rule out that I wouldn't have diabetes. I was around 500. You should be 80-150. So, my mom rushed to Tripler (the big pink hospital) at 1:00 am because the hospital on Hickam is only a clinic for app...

Kindergarden Slideshow

I just updated pictures on Picasa with a 2009_May album. There are some older pictures in that folder that I just received from Alan's teacher in order to make the Kindergarden slideshow. I LOVE the pictures from field day!! I will try to upload the slideshow here.

Old Maid in My Ear

Last week Alan said he put a popcorn seed in his ear at school. We took him to the pediatrician at the base and they tried to get it out with irrigation. While we were waiting for the referral my friend, Missy (a nurse), took him to her husband's office and tried to irrigate it out again. No luck so we had to wait for a referral to be approved to take him to a pediatric ENT. The closest one is in Pensacola and couldn't get him in until March 17th!! Again I called my friend Missy and asked for her recommendation on ENT doctors in town. She gave me her guy's name and I got on the phone with Tricare. It took lots of call transfers and time, but they could change the referral to Dr. Tran and he could get us in yesterday. Dr. Tran was unable to remove the popcorn seed in his office, but they could get Alan in for surgery first thing this morning to remove the seed. Here is where I learned that anything requiring anesthesia is called surgery. They were going to put Alan out so he...

DOT com

Alan said the funniest thing yesterday. We were working in a small group in his Kindergarden class and he asked me to buy him this special series of books like the teacher had. I said, "I'll have to see if we can even find those books in the store. I think they are only available for teachers." His reply was very matter of factly stated. "Mommy, just go to dot com and find it on the computer to buy it." Maybe I shop online too much!! I also updated the pictures on picasa. Just click on the Saucer Family Website link to the left to view 2009_February and 2009_March.

Soccer Season

Alan officially started soccer last week. He has practice on the same 2 evenings he has speech with an extra half hour between the two. We decided to pack a picnic supper for his first practice and just eat at the park. Alan's team is called The Cruisers and his coach is a friend of mine, Miss Nicole. There are 10 boys on the team ages 4-6 and they will play 5 on the field with NO goalie for games. Here is the team with Coach Nicole. Here are some pictures of Alan practicing on the field. Eddie and Joey have a blast playing on the playground during practice!!

100 Days of Kindergarten

Today is the 100th day of Kindergarten for Alan. They had to do a poster/project to represent 100. Alan really LOVES to play with my scrapbooking tools so he decided he wanted to use 100 wiggly eyes. I asked how he wanted to use the eyes and he decided we could cut out people with my cricut. He gave me the paper doll cartdrige for Christmas. We decided we should use 200 eyes and make 100 people. He is really into the wii so we made the title of the project be 100 Wii People. He picked out 10 different pattern papers from my stash and we cut 10 people from each pattern to show groups of 10 within 100. It took Alan all weekend to finish his poster, but he did it all himself. Notice the glue work :) Here are some pictures of the progress.

Life's Lessons

Alan is now 5 and really starting to "figure" things out. It was only a couple weeks ago that I pulled him aside one night when he was being a big pain. I explained to him that when I said it was bedtime and had a couple things to do it would be a really good idea for him to just "disappear" and be soooo quiet I would maybe forget he was still awake and he would end up staying up way past his bedtime!!! I really wasn't sure how he would process this info until last night. We are staying with Uncle Tim, Aunt April, and Cousin Ian. The adults were playing Apples to Apples (This is an A-W-E-S-O-M-E board game!!!). Daniel told Alan and Eddie to use the bathroom and he would tuck them in. He was then promptly distracted by laughter from the game. It was well over an hour later when I realized Alan and Eddie were sitting at the kids table playing very quietly. I guess this lesson really stuck. I quietly shared the story at the grown up table and continued to ...

Alan Update

Alan has been a very busy bee. He started Kindergarten on the 20th!!! Here is a picture with his teacher, Ms. Vann, on the first day of school. Here he is with Mommy on the first day of school. Here he is working on the first day of school!! Alan has been working very hard in Kindergarten. He even got his paper on the cupboard in the classroom. Ms. Vann was so proud of his attention to detail she hopes this will inspire Alan's classmates to work hard to get their papers on the cupboard as well. Here is a picture of Alan with Ms. Vann in front of his work. Here is a close up of the paper itself. Here is his first progress report on learning the classroom rules. If only he would apply them at home too!!! Alan also turned the big 5 last week. He opted to have his best buddy Aidan over for a sleep over instead of a bunch of friends for just a BBQ. Daddy surprised him with a Burger King happy meal at school for lunch and he took Alan and Aidan to the Star Wars Clone Wars after sc...
