Joey's First X-Rays

Today was a long and challenging day. We called the doctors office yesterday as Joey was not only fighing off a cough, but also seemed to have a bit of trouble breathing. The base nurse had a million questions for me to try to treat him over the phone as there were NO appointments available and she didn't really think it was bad enough to go to urgent care. We got him an appointment for 7:30am today. He was pretty bad when we called, worse this morning when he woke up and his chest was caving in as he breathed when we arrived at the base hospital to see the doctor. The hospital staff remained very calm, but we did NOT have to wait for anything and they pulled the doctor out from seeing another patient. After all the vitals and routine stuff they did a breathing treatment to see if the weezing would improve. It really didn't do too much and his blood oxygen was still very low so they started a second treatment with a different nurse who Joey evidently didn't like her method as this is when he got pissed off and started screaming. We only got half way throught the treatment because he was screaming so bad. The doctor came back and gave him his first dose of oral steriods (he has to take this 2x a day for 3 days) Then she had the nurse accompany us to X-Ray to check Joey's lungs. Good news here they looked all right and it's not pneumonia. She checked his ears, throat and the regular routine then said he also has an ear infection!!! All right now we are gonna get out the big guns to medicate him. They came back with a steriod shot of Rocefin (sp?). They split this into 2 injections for him and gave us the machine to do breathing treatments at home with him. His blood oxygen had to get above 95 before we could leave and when it did we were on our way. He will go back in the morning so the doctor can check on him. I am so proud of Eddie for enduring 3.5 hours of the base hospital and not getting into trouble and I thank God Alan is in school now so I didn't have to juggle all 3 of them!! Any prayers for Joey to recover quickly are greatly appreciated. They say he has Croup (sp?) and he should be fine in the very near future.

First Day of School Panic Attack

Okay so most of you know I'm not the emotional mom on the first day of school. Alan started First Grade today and today was DIFFERENT!! I don't know why it was so hard to hold back the tears as the school bus pulled away. I suspect it had something to do with the fact he was riding the bus and I wasn't leaving him in a classroom with a smiling teacher and lots of new friends. Another part of it was knowing he was going to a bare walled classroom with a SUBSTITUTE teacher until they hire a full time teacher for his class. It's a good thing we were early to get to the bus stop. The bus came a full 10 minutes early!! Waiting for the school bus Waiting on the correct side of the street The bus is here!! Joey ran right for the doors trying to get on the bus and was quite upset he didn't get to ride.  He kept saying "I go school, I go school" This is a picture of the school taken from our driveway! A picture of the school close up Our...

Dreaming of a White Christmas

While a "White" Christmas is something many dream of, I'm pretty confident in saying I dream and pray that this will be my LAST white Christmas!! It's funny how the only things about snow that "stick" in your memory are the snowball fights, snowman building, sledding and FUN!!! Daniel and I decided the boys would really enjoy seeing snow for the first time this year. So we packed up our mini van turned into a sleigh and then hit the highway our destination was 2 days away. Over the highways and byways we glide to grandmother's house we drive. With turn right or turn left we trust GPS to get us there alive. It turns out we have very bad trip coordination with mother nature. She seemed to think this weekend was the perfect time for a blizzard/white out to visit the mid-west. This didn't quite sync with our driving plans. The further north we drove the talk of snow increased until it was finally falling and hitting our windshield. I warned them o...
